Hi Vats makkale,
Its again was a meeting chance for the vats makkal to meet at Masthan’s (L Sheik Masthan Sha ) at Trichy.
Here is the update who all missed it, it was on saturday night, I, psycho , philip and his wife (ida) went boarded the train(Rameshwaram Exp) to the Trichy (which reaches trichy at untime , around 2 :10 am in the morning. Any we had informed masthan, about our comming and he had made some arrangement for accomodation near the bus stand.
So as soon as we got in the train, the last bay(72 – 64 ) was.. empty.. none of them were occupied, see that, i told psycho “Machi..inghe ye unkundulam da..” because our bay where we had our confirmed tickets were fully crowded. Yes, the problem was the confusion that prevailed among all about the newly inserted birth (Side Middle Birth – SMB), and this was the reason for which the last bay was not occupied by none , because for each bay.. there should be only 8 persons (not considering the SMB) instead people all settled counting 9 persons per birth. Once things..were settled.. we had..some memories of train journey’s when used to travel.. during our return and onward journey’s during our college winter and summer vacation’s and also some update to Ida about our vats makkal’s masthi..etc..etc.. and then we had nice dinner ,which ida & philip had prepared for us from their house.., Thanks to Ida & philip for the Tasty dinner.
As usual namba psycho ku oru kutti ponnu friend aayidichu..! Apparam ..enna namba pyscho uncle ore masthi dhan..! majic show. , and confusism..dhan..( trying to confuse the kid by interrupting her conversion in his own style.. )

Before sleeping., i had psycho had recalled the “Setting up alam clock event” while we went to arivu’s marriage, because the train which we boarded to arivu’s marraige also reached around 2 am

On reaching the TP Jucntion, Ida’s relative had come there and they left with them hiring an auto, meanwhile i and psycho enquired for auto how much he would charge to take us to the neay by bus stand., (we knew that bus stand is not even half a km) he said..50 rs.. ) ,that was too much and ..so we decided to go by walk..(thinking. that.. naanga..ellam..ethana.. treking..poi vandhu irrukhum…..! idhu ellam enna .Ju Ju bi…) then auto driver came behind us..reducing his charge… sir.. 40 rs.. then.. 30 rs.. .Chance eh.. illay..poya.. sollittom..!

So morning we had take a bus from trichy bus stand to BHEL training center, that was the venue for sheik’s marraige. As we went to the bus stand and enquired for the buses.. we came to know that. all the buses enroute to Thanjavur would pass through this stop. But the conductor did not allow us to get into the bus, instead what he said was.. “Bus Kelambam podhu yerikhonga..” so nanga..nica.. got into the next bus which was standing behing and sat at the Last (one single long back seat..) , as the toad was not proper condition.. we enjoyed the first speed breaker, which threw us to hit the top of the bus..in the sitting posistion itself “eppa thapichoom…” then from there..onwards.. when ever we saw the next speed breaker.. “Machi ..u…ss..saaar..ra.. ezhundhu irchi ninnu koda..”

Finally we reached the Venue at 10:30 , Philp and Ida also reached in the next five mins. Then came Maapla (Masthan) alone , he was fully covered with pardha..he himself was not able to see , 3-4 people were holding him.. and bring down the steps .. (For a oorvalam) The oorvalam was led with Grand Musical Party.

After the oorvalam was over , masthan was alone brought to the stage, then read out some verses.. .. and all other things we done.. with maapale alone on the stage,

these things took around 20-30 mins.. then after that.. all stood up and received the sweet bunch..

This was the first muslim marraige i am attending…, and so it is done this way.. ,when maapale.. is brought to stage and performs his rights and rituals , parallely.. it is done with.. the bride.

Vats Makkal at Sredhar – Jayagowri’s Marriage

I don’t know to many of our vats makkal received the invitation. As the marriage hall was easily reachable to me ,as it is in Annanagar i along with Menaka attended Chinna Maadu’s marriage.

Vats 98 Reunion at Connecticut

Hi ,
Vats 98 batch had a great time when they met after 9 years, Imagine how it would be ,when you meet your good old friends with whom you have shared your room during your college days..! Not words to say..!

Yes this happened with this batch, among the 13 members of the batch 6 of them were able to meet again , they are Girish Janakiram (mottai) , Sridhar Pichumani (pondy), Subasanthar Thiruvasagam (vettiyan), Anantharaman KalayanRaman (kuku) and the hosts -> Prashanth (kaka) & Vidhya.

So it all happened at Prsanth – vidhya’s house at Cheshire in Connecticut, Two days of relaxation ,had great time & Fun ,and in between they had called me and Sajeesh to make our presence feel in the group.

This time we had nice time as our vats men’s party turned out be a Family event.
We had our senior most member Pandian and the junior most guys from 2006 passed out.
Unfortunately ilango and sathya who had confirmed their presence couldn’t make it.

So that was the list.
It was me and menaka who first arrived to the hotel at around 6 pm,and we were waiting in the reception I was able to find namba pondy of karthik’s batch A N Kumar, he joined us. Then next came
our ” Iya “, hope you remember this name, its none other than Dwaraka (pondy from mochi’s batch), he came along with his wife and 2 sons (yuvan and charan ). Now we moved to the hall and were waiting for others to arrive. Then came one by one, Mochi had brought some gift items to the kids,so that they too had some fun ,as all of them arrived it was now time to get to know each other , so we started with the intro session with our perum thalaivar pandian, introducing himself,his wife and their kids.. and this continued with rest of them.

As this was the first time we have planned for a family,we thought of some fun games, So our think tank (ananth) came up with a game – Passing the Dumb Charads , we had the teams split up in a random manner. and enjoyed playing this game, it was real fun.
Thanks for karthik for a quick game plan. In meantime, the kids were really having their own time.As dwaraka had to attend his own company’s get-together he and his family left by around 8 pm.

Next we thought why not we have some hip-hop .. So Ektha came up with another game somewhat similar to the musical chair,So it was really a nice game. Meanwhile all the kids were having nice time at microphone… singing rhyms,welcoming .. “hello ..hello.. ” they enjoyed themselves.

Our hero of this event was A N Kumar’s son – Arun Balaji (2 and half yr old), from the moment the music started, he was in full enthu…and was non-stop dancing.

We shared our wonderful college days ,ragging period ,seniors and juniors list..and some of the college days’ photos,the life before marriage and after marriage.

All the ladies in the get together also felt that..it was a good initiative from our side to make this event as family event.

I thank all the vats makkal for making this event enjoyable.

We all had planned and booked tickets to madurai, but namba arivu took up the challange of reaching madurai with booking any ticket, we (me and my wife ) left the marriage hall after the muhurtham was over (around 10:30 am) but still namba arivu had not yet reached the marriage hall , So waiting from arivu to hear his adventures journey.

Tada Falls One day trip

Dear All,
Last Sunday was the ultimate day in the recent months and one of the excellent trips from our L&T Sangam…
Myself along with other 7 L&T sangam members went to (Trekking/Water falls near Tada) on last sunday.
We started here at 7.15 A.M in the morning from our office premises and taken the route of Koyembedu, Padi, Redhills, Puzhal, Tada, Varadaiyapalayam and reached Ubbalamadugu Falls base camp at 10.00 A.M. Tada falls is actually 95 kms from Chennai. We had breakfast (Idly,Coconut chutni & Tomato Chutni) and Lunch (Tamarind rice, Curd rice & Potato masala, murukku & chips) and also we had bought four 2 liter cans of water and 3 one litre can and snacks (Biscuits & Fruits) carried for this trek and We Carried some medication Painkillers, bandage, Dettol, Knife and a pair of scissors with some clean cloth.
Tada Falls

it is a beautiful waterfall not yet spoiled by the tourist crowd. Nature at its best. The pristine beauty is still undisturbed. Tada Falls is a great adventure spot located deep in the forests bordering Nellore and Chittoor districts in Andhra Pradesh

First we went to Tada which is on the border of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. We took NH-5 from Chennai and drive for about 85 kilometers to reach Tada. Just before we enter the town Tada, we hit the Kalahasti Road going west off NH-5. Take this road and went another 10 to 15 kilometers till we hit Varadaiah Palem. Asked local for directions to Ubbalamadugu Falls. That is the actual name of the Falls. In fact the falls are nearer to Kalahasti than to Tada. However since the approach is from Tada, outsiders call it Tada Falls.

The road from Varadaiah Palem to Ubbalamadugu checkpost is fairly OK. If you are traveling in anything other than an SUV or Motorbike, be very careful and drive slowly. Once we reached the checkpost, listened patiently to all the warnings from the ranger-watchman and pay 50 rupees per vehicle and 2 rupees for entry for adults and Rs 50 for camera.

Now the drama starts. There is no proper road. All we saw is an endless stretch of about two meters width comprising of small to medium sized rocks amidst dense vegetation. The locals call it as a road. Again, if you are not in an SUV or a bike, the safest speed on this road is 5 kilometers per hour. Anything more than that is going to break your axle into two if not three. Distance from Check post to Base camp(parking area) approx three kilometers.

We actually got down from the Tata sumo Victa at this point and started walking towards the hills. However this walk to Tada falls is around 3 to 4 kilometers. So it is better to be in your vehicle if you are not very trek-savvy.

On second thoughts, if you are not very trek-savvy, turn your vehicle back and go back to Chennai. Reaching Tada Falls is no childs play. Make sure you have no kids or elderly people in your group. They simply cannot make it to the falls.

This is Godforsaken land. You won’t get anything. In fact you won’t see a human face after the first two kilometers. So we packed our backpacks adequately. However believe us, Tada falls water is definitely much better and clearer than the so called mineral water we get in Chennai. It is best to carry a one-liter bottle of water in every backpack. You can fill it up all through the trek. There is a water stream running all along the trek path. The water is crystal clear.

We started trekking at 10.30 am. From base camp 2 till we reached the first rest point which is about two kilometers from the start, it is a fairly easy trek. we had to take the pathway which is mostly flat and straight. At the end of this phase, we reached a Siva Temple. we had crossed the water stream at this point. Depth varies from 5 feet to 2 feet. Be careful while crossing this stream. There are lots of submerged boulders. we had refreshed by swimming in these waters.

Once we crossed this point, there is no such thing as a path. We need to trek on the rocks/boulders/logs/trees etc to go upstream towards the water falls. Some rocks are taller than five meters and some are steeper than we can’t imagine. When we came to the stage where we are greeted with an almost formidable rock formation, we didn’t get disheartened. This is the best place of Tada Falls. We have seen a clear water stream and a small waterfall sandwiched between two boulders. We Climbed those boulders and sat under those falls. Heavenly! This is our second rest point.

We had Spend much time in this point. Then gather all your energy and climb that rock formation. Life is going to be easy once we conquered this formation. Once we reached to the top , we saw a beautiful area of still waters surrounded by big rocks. What is different from other falls here is you need to swim thru deep waters which is 10-20ft deep to reach the main area of falls. Depth from 5 ft to 20 ft for the distance of around 20m and again we will get 5 ft deep water and again depth increases…This characteristics is something different from other falls I have seen. Congratulations we had reached the Tada Falls. The time we took to reach the final point is around 2 hours. It is an wonderful Falls never I have seen in my life time. We had fun and start our journey home at 3.30pm. we need at least one and half hours to reach the base camp.we had reached this point before sun sets. This forest is home to Bears, Leopards, Foxes and Wild Boars (ok, Wild Boars are really less dangerous than stray dogs).

This is perhaps the best outing we have ever been a part of. The scenery is beautiful. The trek is soul satisfying and the adventure part is really great. However as we said earlier, the ideal age group is 15-40.
Wait till rainy days are over. Winter is the best time to visit this place. January/February is the ideal time.
Public transportation to reach this place is difficult better to reach the place by own vehicle/Travels.

A few things to remember when you plan for a trip to Tada:

Leave early to escape the mad rush in the afternoon. Shorts and T-shirt are a must. You have to wade through water to reach the biotopes so you don’t want your trousers or jeans to get wet. A spare change of clothes is great if you plan to get wet. Wear footwear that do not slip in water (canvas shoes are great). Carry a shoulder bag so that your hands are free to hold and balance. Carry lots of water to drink. Cell phones do not work, Carry cameras in waterproof bags so that they are not spoilt if they fall into water. Hats are a must. The sun beats down hard and there is very little shade except in a few places. If someone has a leg related problem, it would be better that they do not go to the 5th biotope and the falls. The ideal season to go to Tada falls is between December and mid of February.

Even though we cudn’t get the view of surplus water in this trip, we enjoyed the trekking..

VATS Gettogether 2007

Yesterday it was for the second time, we the Vats Makkal in Chennai celebrated the vats day at Hotel Ranjith –>Roof top, this time.. we were able to find some more vats makkal.. who were lost in touch.. A.N Kumar pondy-mech (vats-p 96 batch) and Ananthu (P.Anathanraman -mining 96 batch), and ofcourse.. one from the current vats (2007 final yr) batch (Ambarish)
This time it was Bala ,who had organised.. the gathering..! thanks to bala..

Actually reception was supposed to start at 6.30 pm…but Kulls and Menaka reached the stage only by 8 pm and we(myself, sabari and Murugesh) cud reach mandapam only at 8pm after travelling thru undulated roads from Anna nagar west. Actually Kuba should give me vehicle maintenance reimbursement amount for attending his marriage…Such a bad stretch was there between Mugappair and ambattur main road..

On reaching the mandapam, we realised that it looked like seeing Udhayam cinema theatre complex..I meant to say
about the crowd over there..It was around 1000 people…

Needless to say that Our Maapillai was looking great with designer suit..
U can observe one shirt of black mixed with white colour inside the main coat which created really a different look..Also this is different from the conventional blazor with tie sort of thing for reception…

Finally around 9.30 pm our sainik reached the hall with his wife…
Our sainik was determined to sing a song in that orchestra troupe..
He finally sang “raja raja cholan” song with his melodious voice.
U can also watch me playing Tabla in the side when Sainik was singing the song..
U know we are from the artistic family
In the meantime Suba called up on my mobile from canada to talk to suresh…But i couldn’t connect to suresh because of huge crowd..
We had a sumptuous dinner with Chapathi and channa, Biriani, Sambar rice/Appalam, Curd rice, Ice cream, Kulab jamon and Banana..
Saapidumbothu aalu pidichu otti thallitom…We were instructing aalu “that aalu namba saapidarathai video pudikaraanga..athu main hall la TV la pottu kaamippanga ..athunaala adakki vaasi aalu”…

Then we left from hall at 10.15 pm.after that oru periya koothu nadanthuthu..When we were going from ambathur to anna nagar west, road laying work was going on that way..TAKE DIVERSION board was there and one person was instructing us to take the other route..Then We were trying to locate the usual route by asking different persons..after roaming for half an hour we finally came to the same place where that person instructed us to take the other route..We and that guy were laughing about that incident and finally allowed us to go in the normal route..and reached Murugesh’s house at 11.15 pm..I was staying in his house on that night..

Morning 6am to 7.30 am was muhurtham..But we cud reach mandapam only at 7.15 am by thinking that time is there upto 7.30 am..

But 6.58 am kke namba maapillai thaali kattittaanam..Namba AALU thaan sonnan…So ellarum enne adikka vanthiraathinga…

Then we were chatting for half an hour about our College and our PC’s dialogues ..In the meantime we cud get the chance of meeting Suresh alone..That time I advised Kulls to handle with care in first night:-)..
Finally everybody dispersed from there……………………………..
It was really a nice occasion to enjoy…..It has become the routine work for me,sabari and kulls to attend the marriages..

Hogenakal trip & Sainik’s Marriage

Hi guys..
it was on 28th (sunday) morining ,our sainik’s marriage..at dharmapuri…
but.. we guys..from chennai..planned a trip.. since we are going to dharmapuri..
so we(myself,psycho and this time it was benedict) left chennai on 26th night from CMBT bus stand.. and reached..sillarahalli..at early moring 5 am..
and konjam..outing to check out sainik’s marriage poster ,and had some fun in the Sugar Cane field
and then.. left to dharmapuri to join.the other gang from bangalore.. (sabari,maha,karu) we met them around 11 am and took the bus to hogenakal.. it was around 1 and hrs journey..and reached there by 1 pm.. and started the..parisal..journey…! and had fish fry..and kottan choor with meen koyambu..and returned back to sillarhalli..around. 7 pm..by the time..arivu was ready
